Stuart Downs
Stuart Downs is a graduate of Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Mathematics. After working for a number of corporations, he found greater fulfillment in teaching, tutoring, and coaching. When not teaching Mathematics at Academe, Mr. Downs tutors high school students across the city in math, writing, study skills, and SAT/ACT preparation. He has also worked for a non-profit organization dedicated to improving Georgia's air and water quality, volunteered at a Rhode Island camp for cancer patients, and facilitated programs for GA Close-Up—a state non-profit organization charged with providing Georgia high school students with opportunities for extracurricular civic education.
Mr. Downs has played ultimate frisbee nationally and internationally for 25 years, including tournaments across the United States, Canada, Germany, England, Italy, and Japan, where in 1993 he was part of a team of ten instructors flown in to teach the sport to Japanese high school students. In 2002, he helped the Seattle Masters team win the World Championship in Hawaii. Perhaps his greatest success arrived in coaching at UGA, when his "underdawg" squad placed 3rd at the 2006 National Collegiate Championships.
