Gina Root
Gina Root received her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from Kansas State University. She also attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, completing courses in Earth Science. Ms. Root has recently received a Master of Liberal Arts Communications from Arkansas Tech University with a focus in Environmental Literature.
Ms. Root began her career in outdoor education on the barrier islands of North Carolina, and has continued to work as an environmental educator in the forests of North Alabama and as a Park Naturalist in the mountains of Arkansas. Hikes and contact with the natural world are an integral part of her teaching style.
Ms. Root encourages students to connect science to their lives, the environment, and the community. Her classroom goals include ecoliteracy and systems thinking. Ms. Root is passionate about working towards a sustainable, healthy Earth. She is an active participant in her local community, enjoys gardening and biking, and is a member of Georgia Adopt-A-Stream.
Ms. Root teaches Biological and Earth Sciences at Academe of the Oaks. She lives in East Atlanta with her husband, Tony, and their two dogs.
